India is to Cricket what Brazil is to Football

I write this as India continue their thrashing of South Africa in the 2nd test at Eden Gardens. We are from a nation that revers cricket, cricket players, commentators, cricket news or cricket in any form whatsoever. Even a hardcore football fan from India will sit on the edge of his seat watching the IPL and its spectacular turns. For children in our country, cricket is the first game they play (apart from maybe ringa-ringa roses) and a bat and a ball is what they live with throughout their childhood. Cricketers are huge celebrities and the game is considered sacred. The question now is, what happens to us when it comes to translating this fever to victories on the grandest stages. Our one and only World Cup was a gazzillion years ago when we were petty underdogs in front of a mighty West Indies side. My last days at IMT

the show is over the curtains are drawn the theatre is empty an as i walk out all alone i look back over my shoulder to what i am leaving behind our heaven on earth the place we called home as i scan the area memories come storming back of friendships made and lost some special moments shared the fun that we had those parties that rocked the lecture halls we slept in the amphi we partied in every inch of this place has some memory attached to it those little things we did that now matter a lot those nights we spent talkng the breakfast we never had with a heavy heart i turn away and i see what i take away with me some invaluable friendships some beautiful memories these surely were the best days of my life and as i walk away to a new life a tear drops from my eye coz its now time to say goodbye

Satisfaction

What is satisfaction? How do you define it? How do you quantify it? And perhaps more importantly, how do you ensure it? I am currently with my 3rd organization with whom I have worked. Every one of these 3 are Indian organizations, I promised myself that I will work only with Indian firms. My belief was that Indian firms are not able to scale up and get to the level of other MNCs because all the best managers choose to work in Global MNCs (read companies headquartered abroad). Hence truly Indian firms are left behind with a choice of second rung talent. I vowed to change that. We all seem to speak of 'ensuring satisfaction' - of customers and employees - as Business leaders without really knowing how to quantify it. I have worked with leaders who quantify it in their own way - some with money earned, some with time spent 'at office', some with simply the amount the employee groans.
